Prediabetes Progression and Regression on Objectively- Measured Physical Function: A Prospective Cohort Study

چکیده
BackgroundPrediabetes leads to declines in physical function older adults, but the impact of prediabetes progression or regression on is unknown. This study assessed this longitudinal association, with objectivelymeasured by grip strength, walking speed, and standing balance, based Health Retirement Study enrolling United States adults aged >50 years. MethodsParticipants were followed-up for 4-year ascertain status alteration (maintained, regressed, progressed), another assess their impacts function. Weak strength was defined as <26 kg men <16 women, slow speed <0.8 m/sec, poor balance an uncompleted fulltandem testing. Logistic linear analyses performed. ResultsOf included 1,511 participants prediabetes, 700 maintained 306 progressed diabetes, 505 regressed normoglycemia over 4 Grip declined from baseline during followup, regardless alteration. Compared maintenance, increased odds developing weak 89% (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.04 2.44) exhibited larger 0.85 CI, â1.65 â0.04). However, not related impairments balance. Prediabetes also did affect any measures ConclusionPrediabetes accelerates decline aging population, while may prevent due aging.

Reduced Lung Function and Progression to Prediabetes: A Prospective Study
Objective: Prediabetes is a state that people have blood glucose levels higher than normal but still not in diabetes range. There is a close relationship between impaired lung function and diabetes mellitus (DM). Reduced lung function can be present before the clinical evidence of diabetes or insulin resistance. Materials and Methods: The total number of subjects in this longitudinal study was ...
متن کاملObjectively Measured Physical Activity and Sedentary Time during Childhood, Adolescence and Young Adulthood: A Cohort Study
BACKGROUND To know how moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) and sedentary time change across lifespan periods is needed for designing successful lifestyle interventions. We aimed to study changes in objectively measured (accelerometry) MVPA and sedentary time from childhood to adolescence and from adolescence to young adulthood. METHODS Estonian and Swedish participants from the Euro...

BACKGROUND Self-reported physical activity has been inversely associated with mortality but the effect of objectively measured step activity on mortality has never been evaluated. The objective is to determine the prospective association of daily step activity on mortality among free-living adults. METHODS AND FINDINGS Cohort study of free-living adults residing in Tasmania, Australia between...
متن کاملObjectively measured physical activity and kidney function in older men; a cross-sectional population-based study
Background kidney function declines in older adults and physical activity levels are low. We investigated whether higher levels of physical activity and lower levels of sedentary behaviour were associated with lower odds of low kidney function in older men. Methods cross-sectional study of 1,352 men from the British Regional Heart Study, mean (standard deviation) age 78.5 (4.6) year. Physical...
